Green Day were formed by Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt in 1987, later becoming one of the most important punk rock bands of the modern era. Their breakout success came with Dookie in the 1990s, which helped push punk rock back into the mainstream.

They went on to become even bigger with albums like American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown and more recently Saviors. Green Day are known for mixing fast, catchy punk songs with emotional writing, political themes and huge singalong choruses.
